As soon as I got off work today there was a downpour…thankfully I was meeting my old co-workers/ friends at the theater down the strip, so I avoided the river running through the parking lot. We saw “Pan’s Labyrinth.” It was all in Spanish with english subtitles. I’ve been waiting to see it for a while. It’s a very dark, artsy film which are one of my favorite types of movies. It was beautifully shot and it peaked interest, visually and thematically. The cinematography was incredible. It was a depressing movie, which most artsy, dark, independent films are. It surprised me how graphic the movie was. Just when I thought they wouldn’t show something…they did. It was very graphic…somebody getting their face smashed in…beatings…a guy getting his leg cut off. Needless to say I didn’t necessarily enjoy these scenes but I do applaud the special effects team that worked on the film. It definitely looked realistic. From the previews it looked like it could be kid friendly (in a twisted sort of way)…the main actress was a young, maybe 12 year old girl, but it definitely earned it’s R rating. I thought it was an excellent movie. It is one of the most intriguing films I’ve seen. I would definitely recommend seeing it but only if you can take violent graphic content. Artistically it’s beautiful!

bueno…
